Academics at The Sterling Hall School

The Sterling Hall School is committed to providing an environment that nurtures and supports academic excellence. The SHS curriculum provides a program of learning that enables students to master Essential Skills and apply them within a full range of intellectual pursuits while also helping them in their journey to become men of character and leaders of the 21st Century.

We are living in a period of rapid technological innovation. Our adaptable curriculum incorporates not only academic but also technological, social, and other issues in an ever-evolving and responsive program.

Our Essential Skills and our Innovative Programming combine to create an academic experience that addresses the unique needs of boys, teaching them in ways that are proven to help boys learn best. Our inquiry-based learning approach fosters critical thinking and problem solving skills, while teaching boys to both work alone and with other students.

We believe it is essential for boys to engage in physical activity daily, as this not only helps them develop sportsmanship and maintain good health but also helps them intellectually. They are also challenged artistically, enabling them to develop self-expression skills.

At SHS, we provide a variety of learning experiences to facilitate and celebrate the differing needs of individual boys, and we celebrate success regularly to reinforce the value and rewards of mastering knowledge and skills.

In essence, every experience of every boy at The Sterling Hall School leads to our motto: "I can because I think."
