School Life

Woven through all of The Sterling Hall School's endeavours is our objective of developing young men of character who will be the leaders of the 21st Century. We teach students from an early age the importance of personal integrity, respect for others, self-discipline, social responsibility, and teamwork. Much of this education takes place beyond the classroom and core curriculum, as part of the day-to-day fabric of our school.

In their journey through SHS, we encourage the boys to assume leadership roles, pursue athletic interests, work for environmental change, and follow their passion. This is accomplished through extra-curricular activities such as Student Council, sports teams and clubs, Community Service, our Mentorship programs, and the House System.

The House System is an important part of our community. Each boy belongs to one of four Houses - Howard, McClintock, Morrison, or Plumb - as do Faculty and Staff. Family members are traditionally associated with the same House.

The House System fosters a sense of camaraderie, encourages healthy competition, develops school spirit, and rewards positive actions by awarding points for participation in extra-curricular activities. Boys proudly wear their House Colours on Shark Spirit Days as a sign of solidarity with other House members and pride in their school.

The House System is just one of the ways that we provide a sense of belonging. We also reinforce the boys' view of themselves as part of many other communities, including their school, their family, their city, and the world.

Safety

As part of our mission at The Sterling Hall School, we are committed to offering a secure environment for the education of boys in mind, body, and spirit. At its most basic level, this includes creating an environment that is physically safe.
