Intermediate Division

The Intermediate Division includes Grades 6-8.

In this Division, the notion of a 21st Century education really ramps up, as we prepare boys to assume responsibility to become lifelong learners who are able to respond to the rapidly changing time in which we live.

Boys mature during these years into responsive, adaptable young men of character and prepare for the challenges that face them in their education following Grade 8. Their work in the Intermediate Division teaches them to balance studies, athletics, and community service and develop time management skills that will help them succeed in high school and beyond.

Leadership is also stressed in these years, as older boys not only take on Student Council roles, but also help younger boys through our Peer Teaching programs and take leadership roles in the House System.

During these years, a number of new subjects are introduced into the curriculum. Boys choose an elective course in each of these years. Grade 7 and 8 students also study Philosophy, a subject normally covered in Grade 11 or 12. This program is an overview of the basic principles and encourages self-reflection and self-realization while challenging the boys to take their learning to a higher level through abstract thought.

In Grades 6-8, students also begin SSAT preparations. To help in the preparation for high school and to provide support in any other areas, each Grade 8 student is paired with a Faculty Advisor in our Mentorship program for senior students.
