Clubs

Clubs are an important way for boys to expand their knowledge and experience outside of the classroom environment by participating in activities they enjoy.

Each term, SHS offers a range of clubs for boys of varying ages. Some of the clubs are perennials, and some are held for a limited period. There are usually about 20 clubs running at any given time, with the selection varying depending on the term, the availability and interests of Faculty, and the interests of the boys.

SHS clubs have included arts-based subjects, like Drawing, Art, Photography, Cartooning, Choir, Wind Ensemble, VOX Band, Jazz Band, Improv Ensemble, French, and Lit Club.

They can also include an eclectic selection of general interests, such as Yearbook, Karate, Chess, Debating, Sharkbytes, Kilometre Klub, Scrabble, Geocaching, Film Appreciation, Environment, Cooking, Robotics, Fitness, Sparks, Baking, Aviation, Grease Monkeys, and Lego.

Karate

In keeping with its Mission Statement that addresses "the education of boys in mind, body, and spirit", The Sterling Hall School offers traditional Japanese karate instruction to students in Grades 2 through 8. Classes are held once a week in three different sessions: Grade 2; Grade 3-5; and Grade 6-8. The classes run for the duration of the school year, with a grading occurring in May. Certificates of achievement are presented at an end-of-year assembly. Many Faculty and Staff also participate in the program, which enhances the cultural presence of the martial art at the school. Karate has been offered at SHS since its founding year of 1987.
