SHS is an independent day school for boys from JK to Grade 8. Our mission is to inspire and empower each boy through his formative years.

About Us

The Sterling Institute is managed by faculty/administration members of The Sterling Hall School.

Rick Parsons, Director, The Sterling Institute

Rick Parsons was appointed Principal of The Sterling Hall School in 2012. Prior to joining The Sterling Hall School, Rick served for eight years as Vice-Principal of the University of Toronto Schools (UTS), where he also served as Director of Admission and subject co-ordinator for the English department. He has extensive experience in educational leadership, theory and policy, as well as strategic planning and character education. Rick first became actively engaged in character development through his outdoor work at Camp Outlook and Kilcoo Camp, where the single-sex environment inspired his interest in empowering and developing young men. His inspiration also stems from his own two boys.

Marco has enjoyed employment at SHS since 2005, and besides technology, has responsibilities in curriculum areas such as media and inquiry, in coaching, and in the Sterling Hall electives program.

Joel Brough, Creative Contributor, The Sterling Institute

With a penchant for anything "sport" and a passion for everything "team," Joel was a natural fit to join the Health and Physical Education Department at SHS almost ten years ago. As a specialist teacher, mentor, Olympian, coach and co-ordinator of the HPE program, she continues to work with the boys at SHS to find and push their own boundaries. As a member of the Executive for OASPHE (Ontario Association for Support of Physical and Health Educators) and the chair for the CIS Ontario HPE Department Leaders, her leadership, professionalism and thoughtful approach to problem solving are a welcome addition to The Sterling Institute.
