Principal's Welcome

Thank you for your interest in our school. SHS has a warm, nurturing community atmosphere and we are proud to say that this is an environment unlike any other school for boys. We believe in a small school (300 students), small class size and a student : teacher ratio better than 8:1.

Our enthusiastic, dedicated and creative teachers help our students learn about character, leadership, sound values and our code of conduct. By emphasizing the Arts and Athletics as a complement to the Academics, our boys build a solid foundation of confidence and knowledge which help them to grow at SHS and after they graduate.

SHS is divided into four Houses, a system that offers vertical integration for young and old and genuine leadership opportunities to the senior students. SHS prides itself on its community feel - so evident at the events and functions and at weekly Assemblies which are open to families - on its spirit and on its track record of solid preparation for its graduates. The active Parents' Association also contributes a great deal to the culture of the school in a variety of ways.

As an independent school, The Sterling Hall School is a member of CAIS (Canadian Association of Independent Schools), CIS (Conference of Independent Schools) and the IBSC (International Boys' Schools Coalition). In 1999 and 2007 SHS was fully accredited by CESI (Canadian Educational Standards Institute). The philosophy, direction and mandate of The Sterling Hall School are published in the 2007 Strategic Plan.
