Our Five-Step Application Process:

Step 1: Get to know us
Connecting with our Admissions Team and browsing the website are great ways to start your journey.  Then join one of our Open House Assemblies and Tours, book a Personalized Information Session, or watch a Q&A with a panel of students, teachers and parents, to not only meet our fantastic teachers, administration, and student body, but also our positive family community.
Step 2: Apply
Submit an application form online to begin the formal application process. We ask for the following documentation to be submitted with your application:
  • report cards (June of previous 2 years and all of the current year's reports)
  • supporting documents that will allow the admissions team to better understand your son (for example, Psychological Educational Assessment Report and Individual Learning/Education Plan - if applicable)
  • a small photo of your son and/or family
  • a copy of his birth certificate (passport photo page if you are not a Canadian citizen)
  • a one-time application fee of $200

Step 3: Family/Parent Interview and Student Learning Snapshot
Once your application is fully submitted, a parent interview and student Learning Snapshot help our Admissions Team to better understand your son to ensure that SHS is the best fit. Learning Snapshots take place at school in small groups and parent interviews take place online through Zoom.

Parent Interview
Our Director of Enrolment Management will meet you online to have a conversation and simply to learn more about you and your family and find out how the goals envisioned for your son might align with SHS's mission and core values.  This is also an opportunity for you to ask questions about the school.

Junior Kindergarten (JK) - Grade 2 Learning Snapshots
These assessments consists of grade-appropriate activities that allow us to observe your son's social and emotional development, including working independently and in a group.  We will also have the opportunity to observe his developing skills in math, language and critical thinking skills.

Grade 3 - Grade 8 Learning Snapshots
Along with any necessary support from the Admissions Team, your son will complete some in-house, grade-appropriate language arts (reading and writing) and math tasks to assess his current academic level. These tasks provide insights into how well your son will manage our curriculum. Candidates will also be expected to engage in casual conversation and do some critical thinking with a group and with our assessor. It is not necessary to prepare your son in any way for our assessment: This is not a pass or fail test, but rather a way to gain further insight into your son's academic, learning and personal profile.

Step 4: Communication
Admission offers will be made to our Junior Kindergarten, Senior Kindergarten, and Grade 1 and 2 applicants on a rolling basis beginning January 16, 2024. Grade 3-8 applicants will be notified by the last week of February (the Common Offer date).
Step 5: Registration
Registration must be returned with the first tuition instalment fee one week from the offer date for your space at Sterling Hall to be confirmed.

SIBLINGS

At Sterling Hall, we value community and your whole family. That’s why we have an Early Notification Program for siblings that provides preference to siblings of currently enrolled families and boys of faculty and staff.  Inquire for more details.

Personalized Information Session

Sterling Hall also offers Personalized Information Sessions where you are able to chat with an Admission's team member on Zoom.

First, you will see grade level features of the school relevant to your son and family.  Then we will discuss your son as a learner and young man during his formative years and how Sterling Hall might best meet his needs. Finally, all your questions about our school will be answered.
