SHS is an independent day school for boys from JK to Grade 8. Our mission is to inspire and empower each boy through his formative years.

Volunteering

The Sterling Hall School welcomes and celebrates the contributions made by our Volunteers.

Volunteers enrich our program and provide an example to the boys of how to support and contribute to the wider community. Volunteering is also a wonderful way to deepen your SHS experience and to meet other parents who are committed to creating an exceptional experience for their sons.

Many of the volunteer opportunities at SHS are coordinated by the SHS Parents Association, though some are organized directly by School Faculty or Staff members. We encourage Volunteers to choose activities that complement their own interests. There are many ways that you can become involved. These include:

  • Special events. The SHS school year is filled with lively celebrations and events, such as the Founder's Day Terry Fox Run, and a Faculty/Staff Tribute. Volunteers contribute to the energy and organization of these special days under the coordination of the Parents Association.
  • Uniform sales. Twice a year, the PA organizes a Used Uniform Sale and Parents help with the uniform collection, promotion, sale, and follow-up. Proceeds of the Sale go towards School improvements.
  • Curriculum support. The Art, Drama, Science, and Music Departments require help throughout the year with projects such as displaying students’ art work, designing and sewing costumes, constructing sets for the School play, assisting with afterschool clubs, and helping with musical presentations. If your interests lie in any of these areas, please speak to a Faculty member in that department.
  • Fundraising assistance. SHS has a philanthropic program in place to support large capital projects, annual giving for the School’s immediate needs, and special event fundraising to meet specific or long-term goals. An active Volunteer community assists the Advancement Office with all of these areas. For further information, please contact: advancement@sterlinghall.com.
  • On-site and occasional help. Volunteers help us with the smooth day-to-day running of the School by working regular shifts, or by providing periodic help with events. Assistance is always needed in the following areas: Community Service, Grade Reps, Green School projects, assistance with school trips, Library, Lost and Found, and Shark Shop.
