SHS is an independent day school for boys from JK to Grade 8. Our mission is to inspire and empower each boy through his formative years.

The Robinson Family Fund Q&A

1. What is the Robinson Family Fund?

The Robinson Family Fund (RFF) is an endowment fund established in 2011 by SHS in honour of Ian Robinson’s 17 years of dedicated and visionary leadership to our School. Income generated by the fund will be used for financial assistance for boys (Grade 5 – 8) who clearly qualify for a Sterling education based on academic ability, character, and talent criteria, but whose socioeconomic circumstances prevent them from attending our School.

2. Why was the Robinson Family Fund established?

The creation of a financial aid program is in line with our current strategic plan that calls for a more diverse community reflective of our broader society. Our belief is that the RFF will bring a meaningful degree of incremental diversity and cultural depth to our school that will be of benefit to all Sterling boys.

3. What is the goal of the Robinson Family Fund?

The goal of the RFF is to provide full or partial financial aid to 6 – 10 percent of the total enrolment in Grades 5 through 8. In order to meet this target, the RFF seeks to raise $3 million over five years.

4. Who manages the Fund?

The Robinson Family Fund endowment is managed by the SHS Foundation. Income generated by the Fund will be used by the School to provide RFF scholarships.

5. What happens to RFF scholarship boys after they leave SHS?

SHS understands that placement of our scholars after Grade 8 is an important part of the program. Relationships with secondary schools who offer financial aid programs are already in development. SHS also assists our scholarship boys with the application process for high school admittance and financial aid.

6. Are there any other scholarships currently offered at SHS?

In 2009, SHS Alumni family, Bill and Susanne Holland established the Nick Holland Scholarship at SHS out of gratitude for the outstanding quality of education that their son experienced at our School. At the same time, SHS demonstrated its commitment to this new initiative by providing an additional scholarship called the Sterling Scholarship. These scholarships are offered to boys in Grade 7 and Grade 8.

7. When will funds be available for prospective scholarship boys?

The timing of scholarship availability has not yet been determined and is dependent upon on how quickly donations are received and the ability to generate sufficient income from the endowment. Once Scholarships are available they will be widely advertised.
