A Message from the PA Vice President
As Vice President of the Parents Association (PA), I am delighted to extend a warm welcome to new and returning families to Sterling Hall School. I am looking forward to an exciting year ahead.
It’s almost unbelievable to me that my family is about to start our 3rd year at SHS and our boys will begin their 3rd, 5th and 7th grades. As clichéd as it sounds, it does feel like only yesterday that we were touring schools and looking for the one, but our time at Sterling Hall has passed quickly in part because it never felt like we were “new.” The school community embraced us as one of their own from our first day.
One of the many unique characteristics that sets SHS apart from other schools is its vibrant parent community. The ample opportunities to volunteer and be involved in the school are both enriching and rewarding. As a volunteer I’ve had many occasions to develop connections with the staff and teachers my boys interact with. I’ve also had the pleasure of meeting many other parents at school events whom I now consider to be friends.
Volunteer – the word can conjure a feeling of dread in some but I like to think that it’s because you’ve not yet found your perfect volunteer-job match. At SHS, there are plenty of opportunities to choose from! I encourage you to get involved and find the position that best-fits you. Whether it is from your desk or on campus, for an hour or much more, any time you give is appreciated. As I tell my boys, everyone has strengths and if we work together as a team, our accomplishments are limitless. SHS is proof of that! You are rewarded for your commitment in ways that have the most meaning and impact: spending time with your son during his formative school years, modeling for your son the importance of volunteerism and becoming an integral part of the SHS community. By far the best reward? Your son’s smile!
I am grateful to the school, the PA and the parents for trusting me with this role. I believe in creating and fostering positive, nurturing and collaborative environments for young boys to learn, create and become the bigger boys they are meant to be. I look forward to working alongside you and seeing you in the halls of SHS for the 2018-2019 school year!
