Athletics

A mainstay of our active living curriculum, our co-curricular Athletics programs help boys develop physically, socially and emotionally while building positive relationships with their teachers and peers.

Boys who participate in sports engage in teamwork, develop a lifelong ability to make healthy lifestyle choices and a love for physical activity.

Athletics at Sterling Hall complement our robust SHS Co-curriculars program as it allows boys to develop physically, socially and emotionally while building positive relationships with their teachers and peers. Boys who participate in sports build strong character strengths such as respect, teamwork, leadership, and perseverance while developing a lifelong ability to make healthy lifestyle choices and develop healthy relationships.  Alongside our strong physical education program, student athletes at Sterling Hall develop their fundamental movement skills in an environment that allows them to learn and grow alongside their peers.

Building character starts with positive role models on the court and on the field. Sterling Hall teachers dedicate their time to coaching our student athletes, and at times, enlist the support of guest coaches from the community. As well, student coaches from our older grades are encouraged to develop their leadership skills by giving back their time and effort to a younger team.

Sterling Athletics offerings include soccer, volleyball, cross country, basketball, hockey, swimming, softball, tennis, and track and field, as well as intramural sports for those who do not participate in a competitive sport. On top of our athletic offerings for Grades 3-8, we also offer clinics for our students in Grade 2 which allow them to learn and develop their own skills on and off the court and field. These clinics are often run by experienced external coaches from our community.

Since I started at SHS, 8 years ago I have noticed a change in myself, I am more confidence, my leadership skills have grown, I feel more connected to my academics and my relationships with others.

The character strengths I would like to focus on going forward are teamwork and leadership, because I would still like to expand my range of skills aided by my peers and coaches. I am still growing and the Student-Athlete process will continue as I enter high school next year and look forward to future athletic opportunities I can confidently pursue.
