Boys are filled with questions and curiosity—at SHS we view that as a strength.
That’s why we engage in a very broadly defined inquiry-based approach that responds to student curiosity and challenges boys to solve problems, ask questions and figure out new approaches to knowledge.
We let questions drive research and skill development and challenge boys to find ways to test their theories and take action to find answers.
Inquiry-based approaches can also be very interdisciplinary and creative, and lead to some of the most authentic learning experiences.
Rather than prescribe a particular approach to every inquiry, we show boys that there are many approaches to answering questions. We help guide them with various instructional strategies from problem- or design-based learning, to guided instruction, to workshops to free exploration, and many more!
