At The Sterling Hall School, we know that music not only moves the soul but promotes confidence and collaboration, contributes to creative and spatial thinking, and boosts both memory and mental health.
From Junior Kindergarten to Grade 4, students participate in vocal music, learning skills from improvisation to ear training to writing music. They also get their first opportunities to learn the teamwork and patience that comes from performing together (plus the bravery involved in volunteering for a solo)!
From Grade 5 to 8, students choose an instrument and extend their learning through studying and perfecting their performance skills. Boys also have the opportunity to join over 15 music clubs, from instrumental to vocal to electronic music (or in SHS language, from Jazzology to Sharkestra).
Students regularly participate in local, provincial and national festivals including the Conference of Independent Schools Music Festival, the Next Generation Jazz Festival and MusicFest Canada.
