The Arts come alive at SHS everywhere from our curriculum to our electives to our clubs, and we are enthusiastic about helping boys understand that the Arts play a vital role in their development.
Starting with early storytelling, drawing, playacting and vocal classes for students in the primary level all the way up to independent art project opportunities, roles in school-wide drama productions and a variety of instrumental performance opportunities for our senior students, the sounds and sights of the arts pervade our hallways and engage our students’ creative spirit!
At Sterling Hall, students don’t separate their identity between Arts and Sports, but embrace both.
Boys will regularly act in the school play, participate on the basketball team and also engage in our Lego Robotics club. The Arts faculty work closely with homeroom teachers to bring an interdisciplinary approach to their teaching.
Boys regularly devote extra time to their arts projects—whether it be extra practice time on their new instruments in Grade 5, a game from art class carried over to the schoolyard or a beeline for the art lab at recess—out of sheer enjoyment.
Please visit our Music, Drama and Visual Arts pages to read more about our curriculum in those subjects, including electives that our students can take in their senior years to deepen their Arts focus.
We also offer many clubs where students have an opportunity to engage their creativity, including Animation, Art (clubs are available by grade), Choir, Comic Book, Creative Writing, Drama, Fibre Arts, Intro DJ, Jazzology, Junior Improv, Medieval Makers, Sharkestra, and Band.
